TypingWeb: I would like you to finish the ninth lesson in the Intermediate Lessons (Intermediate Wrap-up). I will also be checking to make sure you have done some weekend typing. This is the last lesson in the Intermediate Lessons, so you will have a few weeks to raise any typing lessons scores you need to before the Second Term report goes home.

RazKids: You are expected to read and complete the quiz for at least one book this week. Please try to choose informational text.

ConceptuaMath: Folder 5 (Equivalent Fractions) You need to complete the first sub-folder (Introduction to Equivalent Fractions) inside Folder 5 this week. There are four lessons inside this folder. The unit on fractions that the Grade 6s have already started in class (and the Grade 7s will soon be starting) is where you are going to 'reap the benefits' of all the work you have done in Conceptua Fractions so far this year! :-)

I will give you time on Friday of this week to work on your Online Assignments. If you have noticed that I have really cut-back on the Online Assignments, it is because of the 'Futuristic' genre novel study we have just begun. I am expecting some very 'high level' work from you on your novel, so any extra time you have should be spent working on your novel! :-)

This week we will finish Folder 3 in ConceptuaMath and the fifth lesson in TypingWeb. If you are already done those, you have no new Online Assignments. I will give you two class periods this week to finish, so no one has to work on Online Assignments over the holiday break :-).

Don't forget that our Secret Angels start on Monday. You must do at least 2 'nice' things a day for your 'person.' You can start bringing your wrapped gifts any day now. If you are Emily's Secret Angel, remember that you have to have her gift there by Wednesday.

We will watch the movie on Thursday morning, and then we will have our party on Thursday afternoon. Bring snacks :-).

TypingWeb: We are nearing the end of the first term, and you need to have all of the Beginner Courses completed by November 14. I am not requiring any 'set typing time' this week, but rather, I would like you to determine how much typing you need to do for the next couple of weeks to be done the Beginner Courses on time. Do not leave it until the last moment! Most of you have already met this First Term deadline! :-)

TenMarksMath: Grade 6 assignment is Patterns and Sequences. Grade 7 assignment is Divisibility Check. Use paper and pencil and remember to do at least 20 questions. Conceptua Fractions: TRY to complete a least one more level in preparation for the Math test on Thursday AND in preparation for next week's DNA (Decomposing Fractions) test.

We will be using a couple of new sites after the break. One is a site called Diigo, and it will be used to do our ancient civilization research. It will allow us to highlight the important facts (make jot-notes online) and then share the site/jotnotes with our peers. Fieldtrip UPDATE

Our fieldtrip has been rescheduled for Thursday. We will be going to Flying Creek, weather permitting, and doing all the same activities we were going to do at Boggy Creek. If we don't get to go, we will not be rescheduling.

Our fieldtrip has been CANCELED! :-( The Board Office is going to see if there is an available site for Thursday. If so, we will try again on Thursday :-). If not, then we will not be going this year :-(.

So far, the weather looks good for our Winter fieldtrip on Monday. If I hear anything before 9:00 on Monday morning, I will post it here.

We are nearing the end of Unit 6 in Math, so our unit test will be on Wednesday, March 16th. That gives you lots of time to prepare if you start now. Don't forget there are Extra Practice sheets you can download from our Math Makes Sense site.

Because of the upcoming Math test, I will not be assigning any 10MarksMath this week. I would like you to spend this time preparing for the test. I do want you to do your ten minutes of TypingWeb this week and your 30 minutes of RazKids though, and don't forget to be working on your March ThatQuiz. This week and next, we will be working on the last section of our novel, Section 4, so make it your best section yet!

Progress reports will be going home on Friday, March 25th, so be sure to get all work completed and handed in on time.

Be sure to check out the Math VoiceThreads!!! Those of you who chose to use VoiceThread to explain your answers did FANTASTIC! I loved listening to your 'reasoning,' and you were able to show me a very high level of understanding. Wasn't that easier than trying to write all that out? :-)

Be sure to check out the new iPad app for working with decimals and fractions, Motion Math. Start playing it now, and you will be more than ready for our next Math Unit. It will also help you with the Math Fraction Test that we have to do again in May for the Board Office. If you can't find it on your iPad, just ask me. I may have forgotten to install :-(.

This is going to be a short week, but also a busy one. Weather permitting we will be having our second, and last, cross-country ski lesson on Tuesday morning, so dress appropriately.

Wednesday is 'Anti-Bullying' day, so be sure to wear pink.

Weather permitting, I believe we are going to be helping with the K-5 Winter Carnival on Thursday afternoon, so once again dress appropriately.

Room 205, Remember how important it is to be organized. Do not leave things until the last minute.

1) I will be posting February's ThatQuiz on February 1st. Complete at least one each week, and you will be done without having to rush at the last minute.
2) This month, I want you to review your Typing assignments to see where you are at as we near the end of Term 2. By the second report card, I expect you to be done all the Beginner Lessons, most, if not all, of the Intermediate Lessons, and you have to have been in the testing center at least 3 times. Most of you have already met the requirements for Term 2. If you haven't, figure out how much 'extra' time you need to be in the site. (By 'extra time,' I mean other than your required classroom time and the time I ask for each week/weekend.) This week, I want 20 minutes of typing done outside of school hours. You can do it during the week OR on the weekend.
3) This week's TenMarksMath assignment is on multiplying decimals. Please read my instructions carefully, as they are a bit different this week. The assignment is due on Sunday night (to be handed in on Monday morning). Better yet, why not try to have it done before the weekend, so you do not end up doing it at the last minute? :-)
4) Remember that I expect you to be reading in Raz-Kids at least once per week. Don't forget that any Raz-Kids reading (or listening) from home counts as double on your Reading Log.

On Tuesday, we will begin Section 2 of our novel groups. Be sure to be in the 'correct' spot when you 'Twitter,' 'TitanPad' or 'VoiceThread.' Ask for help if you are not sure.

This week there is no TenMarks Math assignment, but you can always go into the site and practice a concept on your own :-).

There is also no home typing due, so this is a good time to make sure you have done enough typing in TypingWeb for January, as I will be evaluating your monthly typing next Monday (January 31). By the end of Term 2, I expect that you have completed ALL Beginner Lessons and MOST, if not all, of the Intermediate Lessons. I see that many of you are already on the Advanced Lessons. Way to go! :-)

Lastly, but definitely not least, you DO have a deadline of next Monday for your January ThatQuiz. About 1/3 of the class is already finished, and most of the rest are almost there, but a few of you have not done any of the quizzes yet, or only one. You best get working on them, so you are not rushing the night before.

Remember that any home reading in RAZ-KIDS counts double on your Reading Logs. Let's move those airplanes this month! :-)

Raz-Kids and Reading Logs

From now on, any reading you do in Raz-Kids from home will count as 'double' on your reading log. ☺ After reading from Raz-Kids, just put the number of minutes X2 on your reading log. This week's TenMarks Math is a review of Factors. It is found in the 'Number Theory' album -> Greatest Common Factor. You may ignore the instructions and use any of the methods we covered in class to find the answer. It has been awhile since we have covered this concept (GCF), so take your time and work hard at finding the answers. Use paper, pencil and calculator to figure out the answers. DO NOT GUESS! I want you to do ONLY the first 10 questions. I want you to take your time and do a good job of these 10 questions rather than do lots of questions, but guess at the answers. This assignment is due on Sunday, January 23.
